St Mary's Priory

Priory (medieval)

What is recorded here

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records St Mary's Priory as Priory (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
St Mary's Priory is associated with a medieval Augustinian priory dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and local tradition suggests the site may have been a place of pilgrimage and healing. Holy wells or sacred springs near such priories were often linked to Marian devotion and the curing of ailments through ritual washing or prayer.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
