Tobar Childa, located in Village Bay on the island of Hirta in the St Kilda archipelago, is a holy well traditionally associated with St Kilda, a 7th-century Irish monk and patron saint of the islands. The well was historically visited for its supposed curative properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin, and was a site of pilgrimage and ritual before the island’s permanent population was evacuated in 1930.
