St Kieran’s Tree at Knockmaria or Addergoole is associated with St Kieran of Saigir, a 6th-century Irish monk and founder of several monastic sites in the region. The tree, traditionally considered sacred, may have been a site of pilgrimage or ritual, reflecting early Christian practices that often incorporated local holy trees as places of prayer and healing.
