St John's Well, the Law

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records St John's Well, the Law as Holy Well (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

St John's Well, the Law is associated with St John the Baptist, a figure venerated in Christian tradition for his role as a prophet and baptist. Holy wells dedicated to St John were often visited on his feast day (24 June) for healing rituals and blessings, reflecting the widespread medieval practice of seeking cures through sacred water.
