St Donats Castle, East Lodge, was built in the late 18th century as a gatehouse and lodge for the larger St Donats Castle estate, which was developed by the Morgan family, industrialists and later the Earls of Tredegar. It is remembered as part of the historic estate associated with the Morgan dynasty, significant in Welsh industrial and aristocratic history.
