What is recorded here
St Corcorans Well is a ritual holy well in County Clare, Ireland, dedicated to a saint whose name still marks the water. The exact history of the site has not been written, but the naming suggests a place where people once gathered to pray, heal or remember. The missing story does not weaken the well; it invites imagination. A hidden chamber, a drowned altar or a forgotten vow may still shape the water, waiting for someone curious enough to listen.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV). St Corcoran's Well is associated with Saint Corcoran, a 7th-century Irish monk and hermit known for his ascetic practices and reputed healing powers. The well is traditionally visited for its supposed curative properties, particularly for eye ailments and general wellness, and may have been a site of pilgrimage and seasonal rituals in pre-modern times.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
