St Columba's Well is associated with St Columba, a 6th-century Irish monk and missionary who was instrumental in the spread of Christianity in Scotland. Traditionally, holy wells linked to him were believed to have curative properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin, and were often sites of pilgrimage and ritual washing.
