St Andrews, North Haugh is traditionally associated with the early Christian saint Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland, and is linked to the founding of one of Scotland's most important religious sites. The area is steeped in medieval pilgrimage tradition and was the location of the ancient Cathedral of St Andrews, a major centre of worship and pilgrimage in the Middle Ages.
