SS Fernwood

Wreck

What is recorded here

Post-war bombing target.
SS Fernwood was a Canadian steamship, launched in 1901 and primarily used for grain transport. It was sunk in 1923 near Thunder Bay, Ontario, after being used as a target for bombing practice by the Royal Naval Air Service; no lives were lost, and its wreck is notable as an example of post-war military repurposing of obsolete ships.
