Sparrow Castle stands in Alves, Moray, as a south-facing two-storey house dated 1776, its harled walls and ashlar margins still catching the light. The building wears roll mouldings on its door and window jambs, long and short detailing along its angles, and slate roofs capped with moulded copes. A later single-storey wing sits slightly set back, while a modern flat-roofed porch marks the off-centre entrance. The house has survived enough time to become listed, yet it keeps the quiet confidence of a home rather than a monument.
