Slight univallate hillfort called The Castle

The Castle is a slight univallate hillfort in North Devon, built during the Iron Age when people still measured power in height, distance and the reach of a watching eye. Its single rampart circles a small elevated place, not grand enough for legend but sharp enough for memory. Maybe a family lived there, maybe a faction, maybe only a boundary dispute kept warm through generations. The stone-free earthwork still holds its shape because the ground accepted the idea: some places exist to be seen from, and some to see back.
