Slaggan Bay features a sea cliff composed primarily of basaltic rock, formed during the Paleogene period through volcanic activity associated with the North Atlantic Igneous Province. The cliffs are notable for their columnar jointing, a result of the rapid cooling of lava flows, and their exposure of geological structures linked to the opening of the North Atlantic Ocean.
