St Maelrubha, an Irish monk and missionary, is traditionally associated with the founding of a monastery at Eynort on the Isle of Skye in the 7th century. The churchyard and holy well linked to his site are connected to early Christian pilgrimage and healing traditions, with local folklore attributing curative properties to the water.
