Duntulm Castle on Skye may have begun as a prehistoric dun before becoming a medieval castle, though the boundary between those ages has blurred into stone and memory. That much older foundation would have given the later builders a place already shaped by human hands, as if the cliff and sky had taught people to hold ground before written history arrived. The castle still stands as a marker of continuity, not a finished fact, inviting imagination to fill the gap between ages rather than demanding a single date.

Duntulm Castle on Skye was built by the MacLeods of Lewis in the 13th century as a strategic stronghold in the Western Isles. It is important as one of the few surviving medieval castles on Skye and as a symbol of the historical power of the MacLeod clan in the region.
