Skipness Castle, a 14th-century tower house on the Kintyre Peninsula, was built by the MacDowalls, a powerful local family, and later held by the Campbells of Cawdor. It is important as a well-preserved example of a medieval Scottish tower house and for its strategic location overlooking the Firth of Clyde.
