This is the site of the second of the two days of the Battle of Bannock Burn, which was a famous Scottish victory.
The Battle of Bannock Burn, fought in 1332, saw English forces under the Earl of Lancaster defeated by a Scottish army led by Balliol loyalists. The Scottish victory was significant as it marked the beginning of renewed resistance to English rule in Scotland during the First War of Scottish Independence.
