Grange Upper castle vanished into undulating Laois countryside, leaving no stones, ditches or mounds behind. It appeared on the 1563 map of Leix and Offaly, proving that a stronghold once broke the green ridge before memory and grass swallowed it. Perhaps a wooden hall, a keep or a fortified farm stood there; perhaps it burned, rotted or was simply abandoned when the land changed hands. The absence is the shape of the castle now, a hollow marked only on old paper.

Marked on the 1563 map of Leix and Offaly (Hore 1863, f.p. 345). Situated in undulating countryside. No visible surface remains.
