Siege of Limerick

Limerick defied William of Orange in 1690, forcing him to abandon the siege and leave Ireland after Patrick Sarsfield destroyed his supply convoy and the citizens broke through the breached walls. The city returned in 1691 under Baron de Ginkel, but women rebuilding defenses, dragging wounded men, and hurling boiling water kept the fight alive until the Treaty of Limerick promised religious freedom and safe passage for the Wild Geese.
