What is recorded here
Mortar and muscle built the rath before christendom touched the valley, yet men still call it a fortress because soldiers camped there during the Siege of Derry. The older earthworks swallowed that later excuse, giving the camp a ghost older than gunpowder.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH, reused as ENCAMPMENT during Siege of Derry. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.; POST-MED. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
