Shepway, Lympne, Lympne Castle stands in Dumfries and Galloway as a medieval castle, though no public gate or guiding hand is certain. The stones may have watched carts, weddings, storms and quiet decisions, while people came and went without writing their names anywhere. What is known is that the place existed, endured and belongs to the region, not to a museum display.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Shepway, Lympne, Lympne Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Lympne Castle was originally built in the 11th century by the de Lacy family and later held by the powerful Neville family in the 14th century. It is remembered for its strategic importance in controlling the surrounding region and for its well-preserved remains, including a 13th-century great hall.
