This blue commemorative plaque records: Selig Brodetsky. Lived here whilst Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Leeds (1924-1948), becoming President of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1949. A campaigner for a Jewish homeland, he was President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews (1940-1949). 1888-1954. Recorded plaque organisation: Leeds Civic Trust.
Selig Brodetsky was a prominent mathematician and advocate for a Jewish homeland, serving as Professor at the University of Leeds and later as President of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He played a significant role in Jewish communal affairs in Britain through his presidency of the Board of Deputies of British Jews during World War II.
