Sean Friars was born in Derry on 15 May 1979, the same city where addiction later stripped him of everything before he gave it back to others. He played for Liverpool, Derry City and Cliftonville, scoring twelve goals for Cliftonville and helping Derry City win the FAI Cup in 2002. After losing himself, he became assistant manager at Institute and works at the Depaul Foyle Haven Centre, guiding people through the same darkness that nearly consumed him.
