Seagate Castle stands as the last surviving stone structure from Irvine's medieval town, having watched the harbour silt into abandonment while friaries, bridges and chapels vanished without trace. Built to guard a sea gate that no longer exists, it still overlooks the oldest street in town, its walls marked by mason carvings and armourial panelling from the Montgomery era. The castle does not pretend to be complete; it preserves the exact moment a busy port became a memory, leaving only stone and street behind.
