The sea cliff above the west shore of Loch Seaforth consists mainly of basaltic rock, formed during the Paleogene period through volcanic activity associated with the North Atlantic Igneous Province. It is notable for its dramatic coastal exposure of columnar jointing, a result of ancient lava flows cooling and contracting.
