She pulled the brass ring, waited for the hinge to sing, then pushed until the wood groaned open. Horse sweat and warm hay filled the darkness, and a pale shape shifted among the shadows. Marianne smiled, called the creature by name, and stepped inside with both hands outstretched.

Built in the early 19th century as part of Scone Palace estate, the Stable Block is associated with the extensive 18th- and 19th-century developments at Scone under the Earls of Mansfield. It is important as part of the historic palace complex, which also includes the ancient Stone of Scone.
