Scanaval rises to approximately 300 metres and is part of the rugged landscape of the Outer Hebrides. It is composed primarily of Lewisian gneiss, some of the oldest rock formations in Europe. As a prominent local landmark, it contributes to the geographical and geological character of the islands.
