Sarah Guppy, a pioneering inventor and civil engineer, is known for her early 19th-century designs for bridge construction and underwater tunnels, and she lived at this site from 1841 until her death in 1852. Her work contributed to the development of modern engineering techniques, particularly in the use of caissons for underwater construction.
