Sanquhar, Castlebank

Cottage (post Medieval)

What is recorded here

Castlebank still holds a post Medieval cottage above Sanquhar, small enough to hide inside its own roof. The town remembers rank and flight, but this address remembers bread, embers and the weight of a door closed against rain. A woman may have stood at that window when troops passed, holding her breath until boots faded into valley mist.
