Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Sanday, Karny Kirk as Chapel (early Medieval)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Linked to Saint Fillan, the site is associated with early Christian worship and is believed to have been a place of pilgrimage. Local tradition holds that the saint's relics were once enshrined there, and holy wells in the vicinity were thought to possess curative properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin.
