This blue commemorative plaque records: c. 1580 This building formed part of The White Hart, Petersfield's leading coaching inn until the 18th century, with stabling for over 100 horses. Samuel Pepys PRS was a 17th-century English naval administrator and Member of Parliament, renowned for his diary providing detailed personal accounts of life in London; King Charles II of England, who stayed at The White Hart, reigned during the Restoration period after the Interregnum; Peter the Great, another notable guest, was Tsar of Russia and played a crucial role in modernizing Russia and establishing it as an imperial power.
