Samuel Morton Peto black plaque

This black commemorative plaque records: Lowestoft Railway Station Britain's most easterly railway station. The Reedham to Lowestoft line was commissioned by Sir Morton Peto and opened on 3rd May 1947. The present station was built in 1855 by Lucas Bros.

Sir Samuel Morton Peto, 1st Baronet, was a prominent British contractor and railway entrepreneur who significantly contributed to the expansion of Britain's railway network in the 19th century; he commissioned the Reedham to Lowestoft line, furthering transportation access to Britain’s easternmost regions.
