Salmon Leap

There was formerly a fishery on the River Liffey at the Salmon Leap. This comprised an artificial obstruction across the course of the river. In 1207, King John granted Adam de Hereford 'all the salmon fishery of the salmon leap'; also, in 1562, Queen Elizabeth granted William Vernon 'two fishing places, called the Salmon Leap' (Went 1954, 55-56).
