This commemorative plaque records: S.W. Herford (1891-1916) He led many notable climbs in the Lake District and is best known for the first ascent of the central buttress of Scafell. This window was given by the late C. E. Montague as a memorial to his friend and climbing companion. It was originally placed in Platt Chapel, Manchester and was transferred to the Outward Bound Mountain School at Eskdale in 1976
