This marble commemorative plaque records: These Russian Guns captured on the 9th day of Sept A.D. 1885 by the victorious arms of her Majesty and her allies in the fortress of Sebastopol were presented to the Mayor and Corporation on the Borough of Warrington by Her Majesty's Government as a memorial of the sufferings and the triumphs of the British Army in the Crimea.
These Russian Guns are artillery pieces captured during the Siege of Sevastopol (Sebastopol) in 1854-1855, symbolizing British military success in the Crimean War against Russia. They serve as a memorial to the hardships and victories of the British Army during this significant conflict in European history.
