Rubha na h-Acairseid is a headland composed primarily of basalt, formed during the Palaeogene period (approximately 60–55 million years ago) as part of the North Atlantic volcanic province. The feature is notable for its columnar jointing, a result of the rapid cooling of lava flows, and represents the remnants of ancient volcanic activity associated with the opening of the North Atlantic Ocean.
