Rubha Caol

Rubha Caol is a basaltic sea cliff formed during the Paleogene period, around 60 to 55 million years ago, as a result of volcanic activity associated with the North Atlantic Igneous Province. It is notable for its columnar jointing, a characteristic feature of rapidly cooled lava flows, and its contribution to the dramatic coastal scenery of the Western Isles.
