This white commemorative plaque records: The Chain Pier. This tablet commemorates the pier, erected in 1823, & destroyed by a storm in 1896
The Royal Suspension Chain Pier was an innovative early example of suspension bridge engineering, designed by Captain Samuel Brown and Sir Samuel Bentham, important for its role in Brighton's tourism development in the 19th century.
