Royal Glen and Woolbrook Cottage blue plaque

This blue commemorative plaque records: Royal Glen formerly Woolbrook Cottage First named "King's Cottage" from a Mr. King who transformed a modest farmhouse into a Sidmouth Gothic Villa with Regency interiors. Purchased by mother of Gen. Baynes and renamed "Woolbridge Cottage" it was rented to the Duke of Kent. He resided there with the Duchess and their daughter, the future Queen Victoria, over Christmas 1819 taken ill with pneumonia he died in Jan. 1820 The Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, visited the house 1st Oct. 1856. It is a Grade 1 Listed Building Recorded plaque organisation: Sid Vale Association.

Royal Glen, formerly known as Woolbrook Cottage, was historically significant as the residence where the Duke of Kent, father of Queen Victoria, lived and passed away in January 1820; it later welcomed visits from other royal family members including Edward VII.
