Round barrow 400m west of Old Castle Hill

Scheduled monument

What is recorded here

Mere metres separate the barrow from castle ruins, as if burial and defence shared one breath. Whether the dead watched the gate or the gate watched the dead, the distance suggests partnership rather than accident. Stone and soil still keep that compact, waiting for someone brave enough to stand between them and listen.
The National Heritage List for England records Round barrow 400m west of Old Castle Hill as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
