Round barrow 500m south west of Peveril Castle

Half a mile south west of Peveril Castle, an unbroken turf mound holds the last secret of a nameless life. Built for someone powerful, perhaps an Anglian noble in the seventh century or a Bronze Age ancestor before them, the barrow never surrendered its contents to curious shovels. While nearby monuments were picked clean, this one kept its shape and silence on the ridge above Cave Dale. The dead person still waits inside, preserved in darkness rather than displayed in a museum case.
