Rosneath Castle stood beside Castle Bay from the 12th century until fire destroyed it in 1802. Its basement entered through shore tunnels, and it passed through English occupation, Campbell ownership and repeated damage before the 5th Duke abandoned it for Rosneath House. The castle is gone, but its bay, tunnels and fiery end remain in the shape of the coast.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Rosneath Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Rosneath Castle was built in the 13th century by the MacDougall clan, who were prominent lords in the region during the medieval period. It is remembered for its strategic location on the Kintyre Peninsula, controlling access to the Firth of Clyde and playing a role in local power struggles.
