Roslin Castle clings to the rock face in Midlothian, where Henry Sinclair first fortified the site in the fourteenth century. English fire, cannon and angry mobs struck it repeatedly, yet the east range stayed warm and inhabited through every disaster. The castle survived because it kept giving people a room to live in rather than a warning to stay away.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Roslin Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Roslin Castle was built in the late 13th or early 14th century by the Pringle family, a prominent Scottish noble family. It is important as a well-preserved example of a medieval tower house and is associated with the Pringle lineage, which played a role in Scottish history.
