Roman fortlet 40m SSW of Castle Fields

Scheduled monument

What is recorded here

Mansland water closed the chamber, filled the lungs and deleted the boy. The fortlet stands forty metres away, small enough to overlook yet important enough to protect. That distance separates ordinary life from the place where ordinary life stopped.
The National Heritage List for England records Roman fortlet 40m SSW of Castle Fields as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Built by the Roman military during the 1st to 4th century AD, this fortlet is important as a reminder of Roman military presence and infrastructure in the area.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
