This blue commemorative plaque records: Caer Rufeinig Maw amddiffyniadau Caer Rufeinig Trefynwy, o'r ganrif 1af, o dan yr adeilad hwn, yn gyfongl i'r stryd. Yn dilyn y gaer, sefydlwyd Blestium, y dref Rufeinig. Yma hefyd y claddwyd amddiffyniadau mewnol gorllewinol y dre Normanaidd, yn yr 11 ganrif, ond yn groes-gongl. Recorded plaque organisation: Monmouth Civic Society, Monmouth Town Council.
Blestium was a Roman fort established during the 1st century AD, serving as a military outpost in Roman Britain; later, it became an important medieval town marked by Norman defenses constructed in the 11th century.
