Roger de Clinton bronze plaque

This bronze commemorative plaque records: The site of the Tamworth Gate or Bar of the City erected by Bishop Roger de Clinton (1129-1148) who also surrounded the City by a moat. The Bar remained until the end of the Eighteenth Century.

The Rt Rev. Roger de Clinton was the Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield from 1129 to 1148, known for his significant contributions to urban development, including fortifying Tamworth with a gate and moat, which enhanced the city's defensive capabilities.
