Rocks of Clashnair

Named rock

What is recorded here

The Rocks of Clashnair are composed primarily of basalt, formed during volcanic activity in the Mesozoic Era, around 60 to 100 million years ago. They are notable for their columnar jointing, a result of the slow cooling of lava flows, and represent part of the widespread igneous activity associated with the North Atlantic volcanic province.
