Rock art (present location) in Unknown Townland

Rock art (present location)

What is recorded here

Unknown Townland holds a small granite boulder no larger than a bread loaf, marked with concentric circles cut into one face. The stones sit in County Dublin, preserving a quiet human gesture from before written history. A person may have traced those circles repeatedly, turning rock into a mirror for thought or memory. The small size invites touching, making the ancient marker feel like a conversation rather than a monument.
This is the present location for a small irregularly-shaped granite boulder (c. 0.41m x 0.30m x T 0.23m) decorated on one face with incised concentric circles (CW019-103002-; pers. comm. William Ellis). Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 15 May 2012
Likely dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, the incised concentric circles may represent symbolic or ritual markings, possibly linked to celestial observation, territorial markers, or early artistic expression. No specific folklore or use is recorded for this site.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
