Rock art in Ballygamboon Upper

In pasture (30m OD), on a SW-facing slope, within interior of ringfort (KE047-013----); Frequent growth of wild Iris within interior. No visible surface trace. An ITA Survey (1942) briefly describes the ringfort and states, ‘in the centre lies a large stone bearing ring markings’. Relatively small earthfast boulder in bank at SE, however no rock art is obvious. The rock art site may have sunken into ground and become covered with earthen and organic debris over time. Likely dating to the Bronze Age, the rock art may have had ritual or symbolic significance, possibly linked to the surrounding ringfort. Its meaning remains undeciphered, but such art often reflects territorial markers, spiritual beliefs, or ancestral connections.
