This commemorative plaque records: In the year 1936 at Bawdsey Manor Robert Watson-Watt and his team of scientists developed the first air defence radar warning station. The results acheived by these pioneers played a vital part in the successful outcome of The Battle of Britain in 1940
Sir Robert Watson-Watt was a Scottish inventor and meteorologist who is best known for his pioneering work in the development of radar technology, which significantly contributed to the defense strategies during World War II, particularly in the Battle of Britain.
