This stone commemorative plaque records: This stone was erected in 1955 in memory of Robert Smith, John Denley & Patrick Packingham, who were burnt at the stake on Lynch Green opposite this spot in August 1555 and also of all those men and women of Uxbridge who have suffered persecution in their Christian faith

Robert Smith, John Denley, and Patrick Packingham were Protestant martyrs burned at the stake during the reign of Queen Mary I for refusing to renounce their religious beliefs, representing the broader persecution of Protestants under her rule.
